190 gm opium recovered From parcel headed to Canada
Chandigarh, March 11 -- Police have launched a probe after a courier firm reported an attempt to smuggle opium from Chandigarh to Canada through a parcel containing a shampoo bottle.
The issue was flagged by Rajiv Kumar, 46, manager at DTDC, Sector 56, on Tuesday.
As per his complaint to police, he received two parcels from their branch in Mubarak Mahal Colony in Sangrur, Punjab. While both the parcels looked similar, they had different addresses for the sender and both were going to different addresses in Canada.
Finding this suspicious, he called the police and the parcels were opened. The parcels contained a shampoo bottle each. While one had around 190 gm of opium, the other held six medicine strips.
Following the discovery, police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Industrial Area police station. Police are working to track down the sender....
