16 relief camps closed in 24 hours, people returning home: Mundian
Chandigarh, Sept. 16 -- Revenue minister Hardeep Singh Mundian on Monday said that the flood situation continues to improve across the state.
Mundian said that though the number of villages affected remained unchanged at 2,472 while the population affected remained constant at 3.89 lakh, there has been a significant shift in the relief scenario.
"The number of active relief camps has reduced from 82 to 66 within 24 hours, signalling that families are constantly returning to their homes. Similarly, the number of inmates declined from 3,699 to 3,449 during this period," he said. The minister further shared that the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), SDRF, and army teams has also been rationalised in view of the improving ground situation.
"While two NDRF teams were stationed in Fazilka and one in Ferozepur till September 14, as of September 15, one team continued its operations in Ferozepur to ensure preparedness," Mundian said. HTC...
