15-yr-old gang-raped in K'taka; 2 minors held
Bengaluru, June 3 -- The police have arrested three men and apprehended two minors, aged 16 and 17, for raping a 15-year-old girl multiples times in Belagavi district of Karnataka over the last few months, recording videos of the incidents and blackmailing the victim against informing anyone, officials said on Sunday.
The victim lodged a police complaint on Saturday when the accused again tried to blackmail her to assault her using the videos of the initial assault.
The first instance of rape occurred in December 2024, when the 17-year-old boy took the girl to a hilly area under the Kakati police station limits where he raped her along with the other accused, police officials said.
The perpetrators recorded a video of the assault.
The accused used the video to threaten her and subjected her to rape again in January 2025, the police officials said citing the girl's complaint in which she has said that she was in a relationship with the 17-year-old boy.
On Saturday, when the accused tried to blackmail her again the girl informed her parents who filed a complaint at the Agriculture produce marketing committee (APMC) police station, Belagavi police commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said.
Following the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and the Pocso Act, pertaining to gang rape, sexual assault , and harassment. "Within 24 hours of receiving the complaint, three of the accused were arrested on Sunday from Belagavi district," the police officer said, adding that the hunt for the other three accused is on.
"The victim was raped at different locations, and we will ensure the harshest punishment for the perpetrators," he said. The police are also investigating if the accused targetted other girls, he said.
A 10-year-old rape victim died at a state-run hospital in Bihar's Patna on Sunday morning, a day after she was allegedly left waiting in an ambulance for several hours before her admission at the hospital.
The girl was raped by an 30-year-old accused in Muzaffarpur village on May 26, police said. She was rushed to the Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur before being referred to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday.
Congress leader Rajesh Ram alleged that after being referred to PMCH on Saturday, the girl was left waiting in an ambulance for several hours....
