13 girls get hpv vaccine as guv launches drive
Chandigarh, March 1 -- Punjab governor and Chandigarh administrator Gulab Chand Kataria launched the HPV vaccination campaign formally in the UT on Saturday.
Arrangements were made for administering 13 girls with Gardasil-4 vaccine on the inaugural day who were presented with vaccination certificates and gift hampers. Refreshments were also arranged for them and their accompanying parents and guardians. Officials said the beneficiary data was uploaded on the U-WIN portal.
The HPV vaccine will be given as a single dose to girls who have completed 14 years of age but have not yet turned 15.
The campaign will continue for three months and the vaccine will be available free of cost at all Government health facilities in Chandigarh.
The immunisation department said it completed all necessary preparations, including training, workshops and logistics arrangements to ensure smooth implementation of the campaign.
The inaugural function was attended by governor's principal secretary VP Singh, health secretary Mandip Singh Brar, director health services Dr Suman Singh and other senior health officials. Representatives from leading institutions, including Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Government Medical College and Hospital, World Health Organisation, United Nations Development Programme, John Snow India, and the social welfare department were also present.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide HPV vaccination campaign against cervical cancer in Ajmer, Rajasthan, on the day under which the vaccine has been included in the National Immunisation Programme....
