12 arrested as illegal in-house casino busted
Dehradun, Aug. 4 -- The Dehradun police along with the special task force busted an illegal casino being operated from a house on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday and arrested 12 people, a police official said on Sunday. SSP Ajai Singh said, "We acted on a tip off and busted the illegal casino being operated from a house in village Salliyawala area on the intervening night of August 2 and 3. We also arrested 12 people and seized cash, casino coins, and mobile phones."
He further said that Rs.89,700 cash, 1,900 casino coins, 12 mobile phones and 2 decks of playing cards were also recovered from the accused. They also seized a car of one of the accused found parked outside the house.
"The accused, including the house owner, were found gambling inside a large room set up like a casino. During interrogation, the accused revealed that several of them had come from Delhi and were visiting Dehradun for the first time to participate in casino gambling. They also admitted to being habitual gamblers who travel across different states to play," Singh said.
He added, "They were in contact with Shashank (the house owner), Umesh Rawat, and Vikram Shah, who facilitated their visit and participation...".
A case has been registered under the Public Gambling Act of 1867 at Prem Nagar police station," SSP Singh said. htc...
