100 CTU bus drivers sacked for participating in strike
Chandigarh, Dec. 9 -- The UT transport department on Monday terminated the services of 100 outsourced CTU bus drivers for participating in a strike despite imposition of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in the city.
Further, notices have also been issued to the outsourcing agency who provided these drivers. The strike call was given by the outsourced employees of Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) and Chandigarh City Bus Service Society to demand reinstatement of rotation system and previously sacked employees.
Officials said no tricity routes were affected on account of strike. To cope with situation, some employees operating inter-state buses were assigned for city buses to avoid inconvenience to lakhs of daily commuters across the tricity region....
