1.52 lakh traffic challans issued in a year: police
Panchkula, Jan. 5 -- As many as 1,52,435 traffic challans were issued in 2025, marking a 65% increase compared to 92,213 challans in 2024, the Panchkula police said on Sunday.
Assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Surendra Singh said cops also focused on educating citizens about road safety. Drivers breaking rules were fined while compliant motorists were encouraged as they were gifted flowers. Free helmets were distributed among two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets, he said. Deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) Manpreet Singh Sudan said special focus was on violations, such as mobile phone use while driving, drunk driving, riding without helmets, not wearing seat belts, driving in the wrong direction, taking U-turns dangerously and improper parking. Action was also taken against vehicles with missing or tampered number plates and against those creating disturbances with loud motorcycles. The police said road safety programmes would be continued in schools and colleges this year.htc...
