1 held with 5kg heroin in Amritsar's border village
Amritsar, Dec. 2 -- The Counter Intelligence (CI), Amritsar, has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of an operative with 5kg heroin, said Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Bhindi Aulakh Kalan village in Amritsar rural. Cops also impounded his Hero Deluxe motorcycle, allegedly used for transporting the consignments.
Yadav said the accused was acting upon the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler, identified as Awan, who used drones to drop the narcotics consignments from across the border.
The DGP said that the CI teams had got a tip-off about a huge drug consignment being dropped in the village on the India-Pakistan border, and the possibility of the suspect coming to collect it.
Acting swiftly, the police team intercepted Kuldeep Singh on the Ajnala-Lopoke road and recovered the heroin consignment from his possession, the DGP said. A case has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the State Special Operations Cell police station, Amritsar....
