'We may have other good actors coming up, but there will be no Dharmendra again'
India, Nov. 28 -- A
t the 56th International Film Festival of India on Thursday, director Ramesh Sippy paid an emotional tribute to the late Dharmendra during a session titled 50 Years of Sholay: Why Sholay Still Resonates.
Responding to an audience question, Sippy said, "It's been difficult talking about him. I think he was the most wonderful man, one of the finest ever. That place will never be filled by anybody else. We may have other goodactors coming up, but there will be no Dharmendra again. He was magnificent, both as a human being and as anactor."
Sippy and Dharmendra's friendship spanned 50 years, with Sholay, where the actor played the iconic Veeru, becoming a defining moment in Dharmendra's rise to superstardom. A restored 4K version of the film was scheduled to be screened at IFFI on Wednesday, but the screening was cancelled due to a technical glitch. The showcase was meant to mark 50 years of the film and pay tribute to the actor, who passed away this week.
