'Security concerns': Rampal seeks virtual hearing in Hisar court
ROHTAK, May 10 -- Controversial preacher Rampal has moved an application in a Hisar court seeking permission to appear through video conferencing in a sedition case linked to the 2014 Satlok Ashram violence.
According to information, Rampal is scheduled to appear before the court on May 16. Before the hearing, he filed an application requesting that his appearance be conducted virtually instead of being produced physically in court.
The matter came up before the court of additional sessions judge Jasmine Sharma, which has sought a reply from the police by May 16. According to Rampal's counsel, Mahender Singh Nain, the application cited security concerns and sought permission for appearance through video conferencing on that basis.
Rampal, who was recently released on bail by the Punjab and Haryana high court is currently staying at the Satlok Ashram in his native Dhamana village in Sonepat district.
The case is related to the 2014 violence at the Satlok Ashram in Barwala, Hisar, during a major police and administrative operation against the ashram.
He was booked for various offences, including attempt to murder and waging war against the state, besides under provisions of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)....
