Chandigarh, Dec. 7 -- Author and academician Ananya Vajpeyi said on Saturday that her new book "Place: Intimate Encounters with Cities" brings together writings that move between the mind and the city. The book records her engagement with 13 cities in India and abroad. The book was released in Chandigarh by 'Thinkers Collective', an initiative of the Institute for Development and Communication (IDC) and Chandigarh University (CU), at the IDC campus. Vajpeyi said the cities she wrote about changed for her as she revisited them. She said she edited the book this summer and returned to diaries, journals, earlier writings, photographs and letters while updating the material. She said she retraced her steps through these sources. Vajpeyi, who has taught at the University of Massachusetts and Columbia University and is currently a visiting professor at Ashoka University, said her academic work informs her writing and her writing informs her academic work. She said the boundary between research and lived experience is porous for her and that many essays in the book discuss books, thinkers, artists and social movements.htc...
