Amritsar, June 26 -- With the completion of one year of the 18th Lok Sabha, here's a look at three-time Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla's journey in the House so far, and his plans for the constituency. Being a third timer, I have felt that things have changed a bit in the House. The government usually does not reply in the House. The PM should speak on the burning issues concerning the country. Opposition leaders are not given time to speak even on important issues. We raised many issues, particularly the census. The PM had to agree with our point. We want the census to know about the current condition and circumstances of the country. Our country is multicultural, multi-caste, multilingual and multi-ethnic. So, census is necessary. This was our or the Opposition's biggest victory. The duration of the session is being reduced. It should be increased. MPs get less time to speak. Speaker does not often accept the adjournment motions under which urgent matters can be discussed. Thus, many issues stay unaddressed in such a situation. This is up to the speaker to give time to MPs to speak in the House. Urgent matters can only be raised under the adjournment motion, calling attention motion and zero hour. For development of a parliamentary segment, support of the state government is necessary, but the latter doesn't cooperate in execution of the Centre-funded projects. For instance, the Post Graduate Institute of Horticulture Research and Education and Patti-Makhu rail link are two mega projects of the Centre, but the state has not been acquiring land for years. Many NHAI projects in Amritsar are hanging fire. The issue of highly polluted drain and Bhagtanwale garbage dump could not be resolved due to lack of state's support. How can an MP draw funds from the Centre if the state government does not raise demand? I have ensured resumption of the crucial project works - Loharka bypass flyover and Rayya flyover. I will focus on ensuring construction of an elevated road on the airport road. Besides, I am preparing the case for the preservation of the old walled city of Amritsar. The idea is to preserve it as heritage structure to boost tourism. next: Varun Chaudhry, cong MP from ambala...
