India, Aug. 13 -- Fifteen years after his film debut with Love Sex Aur Dhokha, actor Rajkummar Rao is "very happy" with his journey and where he is in his career today. Ask about the lessons he's learnt in all his years in the industry and the actor tells us, "As such, I don't think there's a lesson I've learnt, except do your job and keep your head down." Rajkummar, who was recently seen in the actioner Maalik, elaborates, "[You need to] keep pushing yourself and work, because that is the only thing people will remember you for." Known to be very private about his life, the 40-year-old adds that when he's on set, his only focus is his work: "Everything else is just noise." Having recently announced that he is expecting his first child with wife, actor Patralekhaa, Rajkummar further tells us, "I don't consider myself a representative of the film industry. I am an actor: I do my job and I love it, then I come back home and I am Raj. I'm living my life very happily, quietly." The actor, whose body of work includes several acclaimed films such as Aligarh (2015) and Newton (2017), surprised audiences with a more grisly, action-forward role in his latest project. One wonders if this is a result of the spate of intense actioners that have been released in the recent past. But Rajkummar doesn't think that this is a new phenomenon influenced by industry trends: "Action has been a staple as a genre for a very long time now." He goes on to note, "In Hindi films, (director) Manmohan Desai sir started making Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) and (director) Yash Chopra ji made Deewar (1975). It isn't so much that suddenly a new genre has opened in cinema, but the fact that in the recent past, some of them (action films) have worked really well. But some have not worked as well. I think the bottom line is that it has to be a good film; the content of the film matters more than its genre."...
