'Hry police arrest over 7k criminals in 22 days'
Chandigarh, Nov. 30 -- The Haryana police have arrested 7,587 criminals including 3,066 hardened criminals in the past three weeks during its Operation Trackdown.
A police spokesperson said during this operation, Gurugram police arrested the highest number of hardcore criminals. In 233 targeted operations, the Gurugram cops arrested 304 hardened offenders, of whom 74 were involved in serious offences related to organised crime.
Besides, 192 others involved in various grave offences were also arrested. In total, Gurugram police apprehended 865 accused. To further tighten surveillance and crime control, Gurugram police also opened 81 new history-sheets, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said that Faridabad police arrested 138 hardened criminals while Sonepat cops arrested 106 notorious offenders.
The spokesperson said police have also succeeded in destroying the resources of criminals. A huge cache of weapons was also recovered, preventing several potential crimes.
The police recovered 161 country-made pistols, 146 sophisticated pistols and 537 live cartridges.
The campaign also delivered a massive blow to narcotics traffickers.
More than 4.5 kg heroin, 402 kg charas, 397 kg ganja and 799 kg poppy husk were recovered, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the police have also identified illegally acquired assets of 201 criminals worth about Rs.168 crore....
