Social media divided after MI knock out DC to reach IPL playoffs
India, May 23 -- Inching closer to a nail-biting finish, the fourth spot in IPL playoffs was claimed by Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday night as they knocked out Delhi Capitals (DC) with a crushing 59-run defeat at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Memes, debates, and split opinions flooded timelines - while some trolled DC for collapsing after a promising mid-season run, others lauded MI's grit for bouncing back from four straight losses to secure a playoff berth (see right).
The game itself was a clear reminder of how much scoreboard pressure matters in T20 cricket. MI looked to be struggling at 132/5 after 18 overs. But a late surge pushed them to 180. In contrast, DC's chase never gained momentum, who were bowled out for 121.
Meanwhile, DC has scripted unwanted IPL history by becoming the first team ever to miss the playoffs after winning their first four matches of a season.
