Saiyami on Ghoomer's re-release after WC win: Happy for second chance

ollowing the historic win of India's women's cricket team at the recently concluded World Cup 2025, R Balki's 2023 sports drama Ghoomer, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher, returns to theatres today. The film, which told the story of a para-athlete who overcomes adversity to play for India, is finding fresh resonance.
"I feel the timing of it all is just surreal," says Saiyami, who was present at Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium during the final, adding, "That night itself, Balki sir messaged saying he wanted to try and do this re-release. Ghoomer was our way of celebrating cricket and women, and I'm so happy it's getting second chance on the big screen."
A self-confessed cricket fanatic, the 33-year-old actor adds, "Both Balki sir and I have been obsessed with the game. The inception of Ghoomer came from the idea of celebrating women and cricket, something rarely done, while also recognising para-athletes who aren't celebrated enough. There's no bigger celebration in India than films and cricket."
Recalling the World Cup win, she says, "I couldn't miss the finals, there's nothing more important than watching India lift the cup. I was sitting with Smriti and Harman's families, and it was such an emotional, exhausting experience. This victory will be a turning point for women's sports in India, much like what Saina Nehwal did for badminton."...
