Sabrina's wallpapered bathroomon your mind?
India, June 2 -- Wallpapers, once a favourite to elevate a room, got left on the wayside with the arrival of minimalist and industrial interiors. But they are back in vogue. Often seen in cottage-core or maximalist homes, wallpapering is a niche way to show off your personality. It appeals to certain people, including singer Sabrina Carpenter.
Wallpapers were believed to have originated in India and China, and they travelled to Europe in the 12th century.
Interior designer Minnie Bhatt says, "People are moving back to wallpaper because they want their homes to have character. After years of plain white or millennial grey walls, it offers texture, colour, and personality." It's also easier than ever to install.
Architect Aashna Mansharamani says it's a great way to "transform a space". She adds, "It's immediate, impactful and incredibly expressive - with little effort."
She shares a pro tip too: "If a wallpaper is the centrepiece, balance the rest of the decor accordingly."
Make sure you lean into the maximalist look and layer patterns or select a few colours and echo them in smaller elements with the accessories and artwork....
