Ready to take part in any fair mediation process: Rani Kapur
India, April 30 -- On Monday, the Supreme Court of India issued notice on a plea filed by Rani Kapur, mother of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, in a Rs.30,000 crore estate dispute involving his widow Priya Sachdev Kapur and his children.
Sunjay is survived by three children, including Samaira (21) and Kiaan (16) from his marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, and a son Azarius (7) with Priya.
The Court, while seeking responses from Priya and 22 others, nudged the family towards mediation, observing that Rani is 80. Reacting to this, Rani says, "At this stage of my life, I seek only truth, dignity, and the protection of what is rightfully mine and my family's." She adds, "I remain ready to participate in any fair and transparent mediation process, while trusting that the courts will ensure justice."
She continues, "This has never been about conflict. It is about restoring fairness, preserving a family legacy, and ensuring that no one is deprived through deception or misuse of trust."
A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and Vijay Bishnoi observed that the courtroom battles may not be in anyone's interest and remarked to Rani's lawyer, "Why are you all fighting? You are 80. This is not the age for your client to fight." The Court urged, "Go for mediation once and for all, from A to Z. Otherwise, this is a waste," while keeping the matter open if talks fail....
