Rajasthan's 'snow desert' goes viral again in the summer of 2026
India, March 18 -- If you missed Gulmarg's snow this winter, an unlikely alternative has been trending online. In Rajasthan's Kishangarh, a vast white expanse resembling snow has captured attention, even as temperatures soar past 40degC.
The site has seen a sharp resurgence in 2026, with a BBC Hindi feature garnering millions of views and Instagram Reels from the location crossing the two-million mark.
Despite appearances, the 'snow' is actually marble slurry, a byproduct of over 1,200 marble cutting mills in the region, known as Dumping Yard Kishangarh. Spread across nearly 200 acres, this landfill is composed of fine white dust mixed with water and processing residue, which over time has created a snow-like landscape, nicknamed 'Mini Switzerland'.
The site first gained attention after comedian-actor Kapil Sharma shot a song here for the 2015 film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. Later, it became the backdrop for the Tiger Shroff-Shraddha Kapoor song Dus Bahane (Baaghi 3, 2020).
Today, it is a popular spot for fashion shoots, music videos and pre-wedding photography. While entry is free, visitors must collect a pass; shoots are charged between Rs.500 and Rs.21,000 depending on scale.
The white terrain is made of marble slurry, which brings some environmental and health considerations. While visitors can still enjoy the site, a few simple precautions should be observed:
