Pritt Kamani on Cannes 2025 debut: We were there on merit

ctor Pritt Kamani recently notched a significant milestone as his film The Storm, The Calm, The Madness, The Magic premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. It was selected as one of the top eight films in the Straight 8 segment - making it the first Indian film to achieve this in the competition's 25-year history.
Calling the moment "deeply fulfilling", Pritt reflects, "I was extremely happy - we tried to create something and it was recognised."
Straight 8 is a unique filmmaking challenge where participants must shoot a film on a single Super 8mm cartridge, edit it entirely in-camera, and submit sound separately - all without any post-production or re-takes. Only eight films are selected worldwide to premiere at Cannes. What made the experience even more meaningful for Pritt was attending Cannes with a film in hand. "It wasn't just about making an appearance; we were there on merit, with a film that had earned its place," he says. On the current trend of influencers attending the festival, he adds, "Every presence at Cannes has its own value - whether it's for film, fashion or culture. But going there with a film and receiving resounding applause from people across the world is something else." The film, he shares, received an overwhelmingly positive response at its premiere: "We may not have lit up headlines, but we've made our own little spark. And I hope, when people finally see the film and understand what we've done, it speaks for itself."...
