Pride moment at NY fashion show: Wool from gay sheep debuts on the ramp
India, Nov. 27 -- A
recent fashion show in New York unveiled a line with an unexpected theme. Designer Michael Schmidt launched a collection titled I Wool Survive, created entirely from the wool of so-called "gay" sheep. According to The Telegraph, Schmidt, known for designing for stars such as Madonna and Cher, collaborated with Rainbow Wool, a German organisation that adopts rams who show a preference for male partners and are therefore not used for breeding. Such rams are typically culled in commercial herds.
Explaining the thought behind the line, Schmidt told The New York Times, "The idea it's selling is that homosexuality is not only part of the human condition, but also of the animal world. That puts the lie to the notion that being gay is a choice. It's part of nature."
