No reason to doubt Rhea, says Bombay HC; allows her to keep passport
India, Oct. 1 -- Rhea Chakraborty can finally breathe easy, as the Bombay High Court has ordered the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to permanently return her passport.
The court allowed the 33-year-old actor's plea seeking relaxation on a bail condition imposed in the 2020 drugs case, which was linked to actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death.
Rhea had been arrested in September 2020 and released on bail a month later. Surrendering her passport and seeking the court's approval for every foreign trip was among the conditions for her bail.
Advocate Ayaz Khan filed a fresh application on Rhea's behalf, arguing that the travel restriction was impacting her work and causing her to miss out on international opportunities. The application highlighted that she had complied with all bail conditions and never violated court orders, according to a Moneycontrol report. However, the NCB, represented by advocate SK Halwasia, opposed the plea.
However, Justice Neela Gokhale observed that others accused in the same case had received similar relaxations. She noted that Rhea had fully cooperated with the trial, returned after each approved foreign trip, and had not violated any bail conditions.
