Nakuul Mehta on Diwali: This year, we have our own Lakshmi at home
India, Oct. 20 -- Actor Nakuul Mehta is gearing up for a special Diwali-his first as a father of two. Having recently welcomed baby daughter Rumi with wife Jankee Parekh Mehta, he says the festival feels "more wholesome than ever," with double the laughter, lights, and love filling their home alongside their son, Sufi.
"We have two kids now-60-day-old Rumi and four-and-a-half-year-old Sufi. Just saying 'father of two' feels like life has come full circle. It reminds me of my parents raising my sister and me. Jankee and I are very excited-we've been decorating and are especially looking forward to Lakshmi puja with the Lakshmi of our home, Rumi", says the actor.
Nakuul adds Dhanteras and Diwali are a mix of family rituals and personal traditions. "I'm a stock market enthusiast, so I'll likely invest in a blue-chip company, plus some silver and gold," he shares. "I'm also looking forward to cooking a special lunch for the family."
Fatherhood, he says, has brought new joy to every celebration. Some traditions have evolved at home. "My dad always led the Diwali puja, and now it's lovely to see my son help him. Rumi is still too little," he adds. "Sufi and I also go Kandil shopping at Dadar Market-picking lanterns in person brings back the charm of simpler times."
Nakuul fondly recalls celebrating Diwali across India during his father's naval career, with diverse neighbours making each festival a blend of traditions. "Pista roll has always been my favourite mithai," he shares. "This is my fifth Diwali with Sufi and first with Rumi. Sitting together for Lakshmi Puja feels truly special-it's family across generations."
Though working this year, he makes time for the festivities. "We pause on Diwali day to decorate, organise gifts, and enjoy sweets-it's a celebration not to miss."...
