India, July 24 -- Getting a manicure and pedicure, applying some nail polish and just taking some take of your hands and feet is such an easy and simple way to partake in self-care actions. However, it is important to sometime dig a little deeper to ensure that your nails are thriving and not just surviving, especially in the monsoon. Trudging through water-logged areas or walking on roads that are slicked with muck can have an affect on your feet, leaving them looking rough and dry. Hitesh Singla of KAI India, shared a few easy ways to give your nails the love they need. If you have reduced your water intake during the monsoon season, it will reflect in your nails, making them dry and brittle. Drink plenty of water and keep them short to prevent cracking or peeling. Trim regularly and apply cuticle oil or hand cream. If you nails grow faster, keep them trimmed. Use a clean, sharp nail clipper and clip straight across to avoid breaks or ingrown nails. Smooth the edges with a nail file. Just like your skin, nails and cuticles can get sun-damaged too. Prolonged sun exposure may cause discolouration, dryness or weakening of the nail plate. Apply SPF and hand cream over your nails and cuticles before going outdoors. Toenails need as much attention as fingernails. If you tend to get sweaty or walk through water-logged areas during the monsoon, it can lead to toenail fungus. To keep things fresh, opt for open-toed shoes or airy sandals. Ditch socks as they can get damp. Your nails are more than just a pretty surface. Just like skin and hair, your nails thrive on the right nutrition to stay strong and healthy. Load up on biotin-rich foods like eggs and nuts, zinc from greens and beans, and omega-3 from walnuts and salmon. Include fruits like berries, watermelon and cucumbers as it helps to hydrate you and give your nails the glow-up they need.
