Miss Universe 2025 rejects manipulation claims after Harvard student questions her win
India, March 9 -- What was meant to be a "historic moment" during Miss Universe 2025 Fatima Bosch's visit to Harvard University on Friday quickly drew attention for another reason: a tense exchange over allegations of possible "manipulation" behind her pageant victory.
During the session, a student confronted Fatima and asked whether she would consider giving up her crown amid allegations that her victory may have been influenced by possible manipulation within the contest. The question referred to speculation about her reported connection with businessman Raul Rocha, President and co-owner of the Miss Universe Organisation.
Fatima firmly rejected the claims, saying she had earned the title through her own efforts. "No, I won't resign. I worked hard and won," Fatima said, adding that her role as Miss Universe is about more than appearances and is focused on creating meaningful impact in communities.
She also addressed what she described as a double standard faced by women in leadership positions. According to Fatima, men are rarely questioned about the roles they hold, whereas women often face greater scrutiny.
Reflecting on her work since winning the crown, Fatima said she has focused on meaningful action rather than symbolic appearances. "Miss Universe is not just about the runway or having the best body," she said, adding that unrealistic beauty standards can place pressure on young girls to meet certain expectations: "We don't have to be perfect. What matters is the purpose behind what we do and the impact we create in other people's lives."
This isn't the first time Fatima has addressed the allegations. In December last year, when asked in the show Good Morning America if there was any truth to the accusations, the 25-year-old had replied, "Of course not". She also lightheartedly dismissed the idea of a "bought" victory, stating, "Maybe you can buy a crown at Walmart, but not at Miss Universe". She also explicitly denied that her father had any business ties to Raul, calling such rumors "absurd".
