India, Oct. 20 -- The late nineties and early aughts were Bollywood's golden era for maang tikkas, turning these traditional accessories into bold fashion statements. Fast forward to today, and the trend is making a comeback; this time with Gen Z girlies rocking maang tikkas over strapless blouses and shimmering sarees. If you've attended any Diwali party this season, you've likely spotted this fresh fusion look lighting up the scene. With fashionistas giving it their seal of approval, maang tikkas are truly having a stylish moment once again. "Women are mostly styling their maang tikkas with western outfits now, giving it a fusion twist. During the 2000s, the traditional lehenga-cholis were getting more contemporarised and styling these maang tikkas would make sense. The current resurgence is only because of the fact that Gen Zs are fixated to the '90s era and they want to relive those fashion moments," says designer Rina Dhaka. Choosing the right style of maang tikka to complement your outfit is key. "You can opt for small, delicate tikkas with single strands or simple gemstone pendants like solitaire or pearls that blend more seamlessly with your western clothing. Or, pick a slip dress, a cocktail dress to flatter your look," suggests stylist Isha Bhansali. While a side-parted hairstyle with the maang tikka was all the rage in the '90s, Ashima Kapoor, makeup artist, warns against repeating the look today.
