India, Oct. 3 -- A new museum honouring Maqbool Fida Husain aka M.F. Husain, India's most valuable Modernist painter, is set to open in Doha, Qatar, next month. Named The Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum, the institution will open its doors on November 28 and chronicle the artist's prolific journey, spanning from the 1950s until his death in 2011. Husain had spent his final years in Doha after going into self-imposed exile in 2006, following threats over his controversial depictions of Hindu deities. He was granted honorary Qatari citizenship in 2010, a year before his death in London. Curated by Noof Mohammed of the Qatar Foundation, the museum will delve into the artistic influences, personal philosophies, and lived experiences that informed Husain's work. The museum building, designed by Delhi-based architect Martand Khosla, is itself a tribute - its structure based on a sketch Husain made in his final years. During that period, the artist divided his time between Doha, Dubai, and London, continuing to paint while living away from the country where his career first began.HTC...
