Love your dosa? This protein tweak could saveyour diet
India, April 13 -- The humble dosa, a staple of Indian breakfasts, may be quietly working against your weight-loss goals, not because it is unhealthy, but because it lacks balance. Celebrity fitness trainer Siddhartha Singh, who has worked with actors like Tamannaah Bhatia, recently shared this take in an Instagram video titled Stop eating dosa in breakfast.
Singh's argument is not about cutting dosa out, but about how quickly it digests. According to him, a typical rice-and-lentil dosa can leave you hungry within an hour, triggering cravings and overeating.
"Stop having dosa for breakfast if you want to lose weight. You'll feel hungry in an hour, cravings will kick in, and that can lead to excess calorie intake," he said.
He clarified that dosa itself is not the issue. "It's just rice and ground black gram fermented into a crepe. Even sambar is healthy. There's nothing wrong with the ingredients," he added.
Instead, Singh calls dosa "incomplete" and suggests a simple tweak to make it more filling.
"All you need to do is add crushed paneer. Make a masala out of it and put it inside your dosa," he said.
Adding paneer increases protein content, helping slow digestion and keep you fuller for longer. "This gives you that extra protein kick to avoid hunger soon after," he explained.
If paneer isn't your go-to, nutritionists suggest pairing dosa with:
The idea is simple - combine carbs with protein and fibre to improve satiety.
You don't have to give up dosa. Just balance it better. "So eat your dosas. just keep this in mind next time," Singh said.
