Leonardo DiCaprio reveals his Sikh connection
India, Dec. 27 -- Actor Leonardo DiCaprio recently revealed a lesser-known detail about his family that caught many fans off guard: his stepmother, Peggy DiCaprio, is Sikh.
The 51-year-old said in an interview with Time magazine, "My stepmother is a Sikh. My father is from the hippie counterculture and grew up in San Francisco and Los Angeles (LA). He hung out with a lot of the underground art movement in LA in the '70s."
As per reports, Peggy, who is often seen in traditional Indian attire and spotted wearing a turban, joined the Amritdhari Sikh faith a few years ago. Peggy had married Leonardo's father, George DiCaprio, in 1995, following his divorce from Leonardo's mother, Irmelin Indenbirken.
The revelation delighted Indian fans, many of whom took to social media to share their reactions. One social media user wrote, "It's wild that one of the most famous actors on the planet is connected somehow to a religion that is not as widely followed as others," while another simply said, "Leonardo's stepmom being a Sikh is a random fact I love, lol."
