Kollywood mourns the sudden loss of Robo Shankar

amil actor and comedian Robo Shankar passed away on Thursday at the age of 46 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai.
Known for his memorable roles in films such as Dhanush's Maari (2015), Vishal's Irumbu Thirai (2018), and Vishnu Vishal's Vellainu Vandhutta Vellaikaran (2016), Shankar reportedly fainted on a film set on Wednesday and was rushed to hospital. He was admitted to the ICU but succumbed on Thursday at 9.05am. In a statement, GEM Hospital said, "Robo Shankar was admitted on 16th September 2025 in a critical condition with a massive gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction secondary to a complex abdominal condition."
He is survived by his wife Priyanka and daughter Indraja, who acted alongside Vijay in Bigil (2019). His body was taken to his residence, where it will be kept for public homage on Friday, September 19. News of his demise has triggered an outpouring of grief from the Tamil film fraternity. Kamal Haasan was among the first to react, penning a poignant Tamil poem in his memory: "Just because you have gone doesn't mean you have left me. As you have left tomorrow for me, tomorrow is ours." Director Venkat Prabhu posted on X, "#RIProboshankar gone too soon my friend. Deepest condolences to family and friends." Actor Radikaa Sarathkumar remembered him as someone who "always kept everyone happy with his humour and worked very hard to give his best. Such a great loss."
