IT waslike sonepe suhaga: VIshal on Homebound win at TIFF
India, Sept. 17 -- Director Neeraj Ghaywan's Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor and Vishal Jethwa, began its international journey with the Cannes Film Festival and was recently screened at Toronto International Film Festival, where it was the second-runner up in the International People's Choice Award. Ecstatic, Vishal says, "The film is not only getting acknowledged, but also rewarded for all the efforts we have put in. We were honoured in Melbourne [at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne] and now getting an award at TIFF, is like sone pe suhaga."
Vishal insists it feels "surreal", and says, "We got a nine-minute standing ovation at Cannes, but we didn't know if we'll get the same response everywhere. We were hoping for the best."
Ask him about his "once-in-a-lifetime experience" at TIFF and the 31-year-old shares, "People applauded, they were getting emotional and we got a standing ovation. They were very enthusiastic. The crowd also knew us and our work. It was a foreign land, but it felt like we were watching our film with our people." Gearing up for the Indian release, Vishal says "I've been waiting for this day for a long time. I am nervous, but my confidence has increased a lot [after the international wins]. Even after Cannes, I got calls from some of the biggest Indian critics, and the way they spoke to me, it made it clear that people in India are excited to watch the film."...
