s we age, preventing bone and muscle loss becomes crucial, and strength training plays a key role. Women, in particular, face a higher risk of osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones and makes them more prone to fractures. Strength training, or resistance training, involves exercises that force muscles to contract against an external resistance (weights, bands, or body weight) to build strength, anaerobic endurance, and muscle mass. Regular resistance training not only builds muscle but also helps slow bone loss and improve overall bone strength.
Recently, American talk show host and television producer Oprah Winfrey underscored the importance of staying consistent with strength training in an Instagram post. She shared a side-by-side glimpse of her workouts from 2024 and 2026, revealing how dedication transformed her endurance and strength.
The post contrasted two timelines. In a 2024 clip titled 'strength training in 2024,' the 72-year-old admitted, "So, I've started strength training. My goal is to be able to do a plank and a weighted plank at the same time. And to do it where I'm not dying." At the time, she could hold a bodyweight plank for just 10 seconds.
In a more recent clip titled 'strength training today', she completed a one-minute plank and pushed herself an additional 20 seconds.
She also demonstrated a weighted variation: balancing on all fours while lifting a dumbbell with one hand before switching sides.
In the caption, Oprah reflected on her journey, revealing that planks had always been a challenge and that she once struggled to hold one beyond 10 seconds. With consistent coaching, however, her strength improved significantly.
"Planks are the most challenging exercise for me. My first one in 2024 lasted 10 seconds. Now I can do them for over a minute, with weights, and whatever creativity Trainer Peter throws my way," she wrote....
