I'd love to work with Shah Rukh Khan: Matthew Ifield
India, June 23 -- Social media brought several musicians to the fore and introduced their music to people across the globe. One such person is Australian singer and songwriter Matthew Ifield, who begun his musical journey during Covid-19. The 20-year-old tells us, "I began pursuing music in 2020 and it was me recording myself singing in my bedroom and posting those videos online."
Matthew, who was in India for a four-city tour recently, is half Malaysian and Nordic. He is "surprised" that "India is my number one streaming territory". He says, "I'm not sure why, but I'm extremely grateful that my music resonates with Indian audiences. It has opened up a lot of opportunities for me."
Talking about possibly working with Indian artistes, he says, "The first name that comes to my mind is Shah Rukh Khan, the iconic Bollywood star. I first heard about him in interviews from this year's Met Gala, and I've been really impressed by his work. I feel a collaboration with him would be really cool."
With Indian musicians such as Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, Hanumankind and Jonita Gandhi taking their music to the global stage, ask Matthew if he would like to work with any Indian musician, and he says, "(Singer) Anuv Jain is an amazing artiste whose work I greatly admire, and (Indian singer and DJ) Kayan is someone I'd definitely be interested in working with".
Matthew found popularity online covering songs like Die With a Smile, I Think They Call This Love, etc., and he will be releasing his debut album in August. But he believes that social media is important for songs to reach the audience. "For a song to be considered popular, it's important for it to gain traction on platforms such as Reels and TikTok. It is important to leverage these platforms to get your music out there, but artistes need to be careful not to be pigeonholed. I perform covers, but I also have my own music and it is essential for me to ensure that people recognise me for my original work and not just the viral moments," he ends....
