How to remove makeup effectively: Expert shares 5 tips for glowing skin

fter a long day at work, doesn't washing your face sometimes feel like the last thing you have energy for? The temptation to crawl into bed with your makeup still on can be real. But one night is all it takes for a surprise pimple to show up the next day, reminding you why skipping this step is never worth it.
Proper makeup removal helps prevent clogged pores, reduces breakouts, supports overnight skin repair, and allows skincare products to work more effectively. Gayetri Chakravarthy, National Creative Director at Lakme Salon, shares her tips on how to remove makeup gently yet effectively.
Before touching your face, wash your hands with soap to avoid transferring bacteria and dirt to your skin.
A dedicated makeup remover like micellar water helps break down stubborn products more efficiently than a regular face wash. Gayetri adds, "Take at least a minute to massage your cleanser in. This allows makeup to dissolve properly and increases blood circulation, which naturally boosts glow."
"You should remove eye makeup with a separate remover, specifically formulated for the eyes, as this delicate area is prone to irritation," says Gayetri. For liquid lipsticks, Gayetri suggests applying a bit of oil-based remover and letting it sit briefly before wiping.
"After your makeup remover, use a water-based facial cleanser. Double cleansing removes leftover residue, clears pores, and prepares the skin for serums and sunscreens or moisturisers," Gayetri shares. She also recommends using lukewarm water to double cleanse, as it does not strip skin off natural oils.
Post cleansing, pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Gayetri says, "Use a microfibre towel or soft cotton pads. Avoid rough towels that cause micro-tears."...
