How do I prove myself if no one wants to take a risk with stories?: Jatin Sarna
India, Nov. 10 -- Actor Jatin Sarna is entering a new phase in his career. After building a steady repertoire across OTT and films, he's now stepping into Tamil cinema with Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2. Jatin, who has also wrapped a web series alongside actor Madhuri Dixit, says this stage in his journey is exciting, but not entirely fulfilling.
The 41-year-old is ready to experiment, but feels that filmmakers seem hesitant to take risks. "Every script coming my way has roles which I feel that I have done and delivered," he says, adding that he wishes directors would trust him with parts that break the mould. "I would be so relieved if directors throw the real task at me to do something that surprises the audience," Jatin adds.
The actor, known for his roles in 83 and Sacred Games, feels that this creative stagnation is a challenge faced by many versatile actors who want to evolve. He elaborates, "How do I prove myself if no one wants to take a risk with their stories or believe that I can carry their film on my own? This is the biggest challenge, not just for me, but every actor who is hungry to prove themselves."
As he expands his reach into regional cinema, Jatin is embracing the learning curve. Talking about working in Tamil films, he shares, "I am enjoying it the most, and to learn Tamil and say the dialogues is a bigger challenge. Just trying to understand and explore. I think there's a long way to go."
Reflecting on the cultural difference between industries, the actor opines, "First is language; in Hindi films I can improvise, but with south films I'm still learning, so I can't experiment much. The work culture is very different. I'm fitting into it. The south audience has loved me through Sacred Games, and I hope they'll now love me on the big screen, too."...
