end of a 'picture perfect' era
India, April 27 -- One of the most globally renowned photographers from India, Raghu Rai, passed away at a hospital in Delhi on Sunday at 83. His son Nitin Rai, also a photographer, told PTI that he was battling cancer which had spread to his brain, and he also had age-related issues. He is survived by his wife Gurmeet, son Nitin, and daughters Lagan, Avani and Purvai.
Raghu was discovered in 1971 by legendary photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson in Paris, who voted him into the world's most exclusive photo agency, Magnum in 1977. He also received the Padma Shri in 1972 for his coverage of the Bangladesh War. Raghu worked as a photojournalist with leading media houses, authored over 18 photo books through and was known for capturing tragedies like the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, and iconic portraits of the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi, Satyajit Ray, Raj Kapoor and other prominent personalities....
