Charli XCX, U2, Robbie Williams honoured at songwriting awards
India, May 24 -- Singers Charli XCX, Robbie Williams and Myles Smith triumphed at the Ivors, Britain's awards for songwriters and composers. The band U2 and its members Bono, Adam Clayton, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. followed musicians Paul McCartney, Sting and Bruce Springsteen in receiving the Ivors Academy Fellowship. They are the first Irish songwriters to win.
Singer Charli XCX was named songwriter of the year for her hit album Brat, which inspired a cultural phenomenon. On the other hand, Myles' viral hit Stargazing won the most performed category.
Singer Robbie, known for songs such as Angels and Let Me Entertain You, won the music icon award "in recognition of a songwriting career that has touched millions and defined a generation". The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers took home the special international award, as judges described him as "one of the most influential songwriters of his generation" for lyrics he penned for the band and solo work.
