India, July 2 -- Unexpected rains play havoc on your plans, outfit and hair. What's more, the notion that rainwater is clean has been proven to be false as results from a recent study conducted over 34 year by the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology found that pollution is causing acid rains. Another study by Florida International University found forever chemicals in Miami's rainwater. So, it is important to protect your hair from the harmful effects of rainwater. Dr Bindu Sthalekar, Dermatologist, Trichologist and Cosmetologist, says, "The monsoon season can be deceptively harsh on your hair. Humidity makes the strands frizzy and the scalp greasy or prone to fungal infections, causing hair fall and dullness." To counteract this, she suggests washing your hair two to three times a week with a sulfate-free shampoo, using a light conditioner or leave-in serum. Additionally, a weekly anti-fungal or clarifying shampoo can help. Monsoon can cause scalp sensitivity and frizz, choose the right hair treatments to protect and maintain your hair during the season. "If your hair is chemically treated or weak, opt for hair treatment that will rebuild broken bonds, restore strength and elasticity from within," shares Loic Chapoix, hair expert, Dessange Salon.
