Capri Diem! The cropped comeback we didn't see coming
India, June 6 -- Wait a minute. is that a capri pant strutting down the street like it owns 2025? You bet it is. Fashion's favourite cropped comeback kid is back in action - louder, bolder and way cooler than you remember. Once the darling of Audrey Hepburn's timeless wardrobe and later a Y2K essential worshipped by millennial trendsetters, capris are officially re-entering the group chat. This time, they're walking the talk on international runways and being spotted on It-girls like Khushi Kapoor, Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner.
Designer Nachiket Barve explains, "The comeback of the capri has to do with the overall revival of the Y2K fashion." Makes sense, doesn't it? Cargo pants, butterfly clips, low-rise jeans - why should capris stay in the archives?
There's also something inherently fun (and a little cheeky) about capris. "They always had a young, fashionable, slightly rebellious feel to them," Nachiket says. And fun fact: these cropped wonders weren't born in fashion studios - they were actually functional! "The origin of capris can be traced to the 1950s, when they were called clam-diggers and worn by women gathering clams on the beach so their trousers wouldn't get wet," he adds.
According to stylist Sameer Kataria, this is one trend where anyone can shine. "Men or women who like to experiment and love fashion may go for loose-fit capri pants with a cropped jacket or a hoodie for a casual look," he says. Looking to level up? "For a semi-formal look, pair loose-fit capris with a blazer, black loafers, and pop-colour socks. That would be my recommendation," he adds....
