India, May 8 -- Summer is here in full swing, bringing with it the season of the king of fruits, mango, arguably a favourite across India. But alongside its popularity, several long-standing beliefs persist, from mangoes increasing body heat to being linked with acne breakouts. We spoke to dietician Chitra BK to separate fact from fiction when it comes to mango consumption. "Medically speaking, there has been no scientific research conducted on the correlation between consuming mangoes and an increase in internal body heat," she says. She further explains that while the term body heat is commonly used in everyday language, from a medical standpoint it does not refer to an actual rise in core body temperature. Instead, it is a cluster of symptoms that people often describe as 'body heat,' which is frequently misinterpreted. She highlights the symptoms that are commonly mistaken for body heat: Chitra explains that these are real symptoms, but they are not caused by mango consumption and instead by diet-related factors or inadequate hydration. Another popular summer myth is that mango causes acne. The expert clarifies that there is no direct correlation between the two. However, excessive intake of mangoes, which can lead to a spike in sugar levels, may contribute to breakouts in individuals who are already acne-prone. The issue, she stresses, lies in overconsumption - making moderation non-negotiable. She adds that individuals prone to acidity or mouth ulcers, those with sensitive stomachs, or people with blood sugar-related concerns should be more mindful of their mango intake....
