Avneet Kaur: Garba helped me make friends in Mumbai
India, Sept. 26 -- Born in Punjab and now a Mumbaikar, Avneet Kaur shares a long-standing connection with garba. The actor says that being exposed to the Gujarati dance form, especially in a city with a large Gujarati community, has deepened her love for Navratri festivities. "I don't know if I can call myself a garba pro, but I learnt a lot of garba moves for reality show Dance India Dance. I learnt the authentic dance form and realised that garba is really difficult. Then I did a music video with Shantanu (Maheshwari, actor) Kesariyo Rang (2022), which is now a really popular Navratri song," Avneet shares.
Beyond mastering authentic moves for her work projects, dance has helped the 21-year-old make friends and experience a culture different from the one she grew up with. She tells us, "When I shifted to Mumbai, I didn't have any friends, and I felt lonely. But the Navratri festival helped me, as I socialised with new people and made new friends by playing garba with them. Garba is such a social celebration. Everybody meets, to enjoy and have a good time together while also dancing."...
