India, June 9 -- David Beckham is reportedly going to receive a knighthood this year. The former England footballer is likely to be granted the honour on King Charles' birthday, during the King's Birthday Honours list ceremony. This will make him 'Sir David', while his wife, former Spice Girl member and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, will become 'Lady Beckham'.
In 2003, Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, for services to soccer. Victoria got the same honour for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list.
Without citing sources, the BBC reported that David, who recently turned 50, is set to receive this recognition for his sports career, and his extensive contributions to British society and charity works.
