Akshay Kumar launches Mumbai Clean League initiative with the BMC
India, March 19 -- Actor Akshay Kumar called on Mumbaikars to take personal responsibility for maintaining hygiene across the city, as he launched the Mumbai Clean League at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters on Tuesday.
Akshay said Mumbai accommodates millions and its upkeep cannot rest solely on the administration. He urged citizens to actively participate rather than remain passive observers.
The Mumbai Clean League, organised by the civic body's solid waste management department, aims to create a competitive framework to improve sanitation standards. Registration for the contest opened on March 17.
The competition is divided into different categories- administrative wards, residential complexes, slum areas, commercial establishments, hospitals, schools, restaurants, public toilets, roads, parks and market areas. There is also a special category encouraging adoption of surrounding spaces for cleanliness. Officials said well-known personalities from film and sports are expected to join the initiative, to encourage broader participation.
Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said the competition will be monitored through a digital platform, allowing real-time evaluation of registered participants. The competition offers substantial prize money across categories, with top awards running into crores for administrative divisions and lakhs for other segments. Officials said the evaluation will be carried out by an independent agency to ensure fairness.HTC...
