Acupuncture has entered the beauty chat: Here's how and why
India, Jan. 16 -- Mira Rajput Kapoor's recent Instagram post undergoing acupuncture has sparked curiosity about the treatment as a skincare and wellness tool. To understand what it actually does, we spoke to an expert.
According to Dr Ravinder K Tuli, acupuncture is not a cosmetic intervention but rather the restoration of what medicine calls homeostasis, or what he refers to as the milieu interieur, the internal balance of the body. "When a person is healthy, internal systems are in harmony. Over time, poor lifestyle, stress, pollution, and emotional strain create internal disturbances that eventually show up as disease, fatigue, premature aging, pigmentation, or wrinkles. Aging, in this framework, is about declining internal regulation that can be dealt better through acupuncture," he explains.
When asked about skincare, Dr Tuli says acupuncture does not treat wrinkles or pigmentation in isolation. It corrects the internal imbalance of the body by restoring what Chinese medicine describes as the balance of Yin and Yang resulting in a natural glow from inside out. He adds, "Results are strongest when treatment is combined with lifestyle changes, nutrition, and yogic practices."
Dr Tuli explains that acupuncture regulates internal energy that controls growth, repair, and organ function. This energy flows through channels, which connect to organs, and the nervous system. Over time, specific points are identified as highly responsive to stimulation which he refers to as "antenna points." Using fine, pre-sterilised needles, these points are activated to correct disruptions in energy.
Anyone can undergo the treatment, however, it is important to have a consultation first. People taking blood thinners, having metal allergies or undergoing a pregnancy are advised to be cautious or avoid acupuncture....
