A spiritual musical evening
India, June 28 -- As Ashadhi Ekadashi (July 6) draws near, lakhs of devotees from across Maharashtra are making their way to Pandharpur, walking barefoot, to visit the Lord Vitthal temple. The Warkaris travel through Pune as the chants of the abhangas echo through the city. Steeped in this holy fervour, a music concert, titled Bolava Vitthal, is taking place in the city today.
For the 20th edition of the concert this year, musicians Aarya Ambekar, Siddhartha Belmannu, and popular Carnatic duo Ranjani and Gayatri will be taking the stage. They will bring alive the words of saint poets like Sant Dnyaneshwar, Tukaram, Namdev, Janabai and Chokhamela, among others.
They will be accompanied by Prasad Padhye on the tabla, Sukhad Munde on the pakhawaj and Aditya Oke playing the harmonium, along with bansuri player Shadaj Godkhindi and Suryakant Surve on the rhythms.
Happy to be performing at this spiritual music concert, singer Ranjani says, "Abhangas connect us beyond musical boundaries - they carry an energy that unites regions, languages, and souls. Pune magnifies that connection."
With this gig being held during peak Warkari season, Aarya shares: "Growing up in Maharashtra, abhangas were the music of my home and heart. To sing them in Pune - for an audience that breathes their meaning - is truly special."
Feeling blessed to be a part of this gig and showcase his devotion, Siddhartha says, "There's something divine about singing abhangas, as they are rhythmic prayers. Pune audiences are not just listeners, they are participants in that emotion."...
