'This Diwali, I'll celebrate with Zubeen Bhaiya's memories in my heart'

or Olympic boxing champ Lovlina Borgohain, Diwali has always been about light, love and home. But this year, the festival carries a bittersweet note as she remembers Zubeen Garg, the late Assamese singer and cultural icon who passed away last month. "I don't want to celebrate Diwali in a very different way because our dear Zubeen bhaiya has left us," she says softly, "But I know if he were here, he wouldn't want us to stop celebrating. So, I'll celebrate this Diwali with his memories in my heart, remembering him with love and respect."
Her fondest Diwali memories trace back to her childhood in Assam, filled with mischief and laughter. "Once I decided to make my own cracker," she laughs and continues, "After bursting a few fireworks, I collected the leftover iron powder, wrapped it in paper and thought I was a genius! When I lit it, it burned in my hand, and my mum gave me a solid beating for my 'experiment'."
Ever since she began boxing, Lovlina has rarely been home for Diwali; however, balancing festive joy with the discipline of her sport is crucial: "Festivals keep us feeling alive after all the hard work. My diet is strict, but during Diwali, I always allow myself some sweets."...
