India, Oct. 10 -- Rhea Chakraborty has faced major personal and professional challenges over the past five years, but instead of breaking down, she chose to fight back and now stands strong advocating for mental health awareness. On World Mental Health Day today, the actor speaks to us about her own mental health struggles and how she dealt with them. "I suffered from PTSD. I used to get lactic acid build up in my calves because PTSD activates your fight or flight response; you are constantly in that survival mode. Overa period of time my gut got affected, because the gut is your second brain," the 33-year-old tells us. The actor adds, "I feel that the mental health crisis is a pandemic and everyone is going through it. I can tell you someone as young as 15-16 today will be like 'I have anxiety' because of the hustle culture. There is a pressure to do so much all the time." While she admits that the conversation and awareness around mental health has improved, the public apprehension still persists. Rhea elaborates, "Talking about one's experiences, whether it's anxiety, depression, PTSD, or any trauma, it's still frowned upon. While there is a section of society that has understood that mental health problems are real, the biggest problem that we, as a society, face is judgement." Sharing her thoughts on breaking the stigma around mental health, Rhea says, "It's just about becoming more aware and understanding. This should be treated like any physical ailment... We just have to change our perspective."...
