'Slotting of actors happens everywhere, from TV to films to OTT'
India, May 11 -- For former badminton champ Jwala Gutta and her husband, actor Vishnu Vishal, Mother's Day today is a profound moment with their baby girl. They welcomed her in April, on their fourth wedding anniversary, and Jwala jokes: "People will actually wish me now!"
"(Motherhood) isn't something new for me. My sister is about eight years younger than me, and I always had juniors around me. My nature is quite like that - I always take care of people around me. So it was innate," the 41-year-old shares.
Though the physically aspect of motherhood is uncharted territory, Jwala does not want any external help: "No nanny, no extra hands. I want to change the diaper, wake up every two-three hours, just to take care of her. I want to experience it all on my own."
Despite the hands-on approach, she hasn't distanced herself from her professional commitments and continues to contribute to Indian badminton as part of the selection committee. "I'm in administration now, so I'm always available on the phone. Meetings are happening right now at my academy in Hyderabad; I monitor things remotely. I can't go there physically because I don't want her to come in contact with too many people. She could catch an infection."
Her protective nature extends to social media, too. "I'm completely against social media - at least until the age of 18. Trolling doesn't affect me. But I'm afraid the next generation isn't as thick-skinned. I'm seeing its effects on the children at my academy," Jwala says, adding, "There will be no smartphone for her, for sure. Now that I have a child, I'm going to make sure she stays away from the screen."...
