India, Aug. 15 -- For Amyra Dastur, August 15 is extra special - it's not just Independence Day, but also Parsi New Year and her dad's birthday. "Incidentally, the New Year always coincides with my dad's birthday. So, we celebrate both the occasions together. My mum cooks an insane meal and the entire family comes together to celebrate. So, the day is all about family time for me," the 32-year-old shares. Ask about family traditions and she says, "We play cards, and this is the one tradition we follow. All my cousins come over and we meet at about 12pm and start playing cards. There's a lot of yelling and screaming in a fun way." The celebration always happens at her parents' home. "It has to be my mum's house, because she will not cook or bring food anywhere else," she laughs. "We all prefer that because everybody loves her cooking. She starts prepping two days before the Navroz, because at least 18 members come over. It's all about her, her kitchen and her recipes that have been passed down from generations." So what's on the menu today? "Prawn patia, Parsi mori daar, chicken and bheja cutlets, brun pav, and patra ni machhi. My mouth is drooling just talking about it. My mum's goal is to fill up the entire dining table," Amyra says. With the whole family under one roof, the day holds deep meaning for her. "There's no message or invitation. We all just know we have to be there. Even when I'd be filming, I would tell my manager and director that on August 15, I have to be in Mumbai at my parents' house." She is hoping to have more fun this Navroz, as her brother has flown in from London. "He is here especially for this, since he missed the food living there (laughs)."...
