'Glad that characters on OTT aren't just black and white'
India, July 19 -- Actor Kashmira Irani Saxena is basking in the success of Detective Sherdil, in which she co-starred with Diljit Dosanjh. She's especially excited about riding the digital storytelling wave, which she says has opened doors beyond the stereotypical roles once reserved for female artistes.
Kashmira says, "The digital space is platforming not just actors but also many creative minds who've not really had opportunities like they should on film or TV. The kind of storytelling we're talking about here is very advanced. Be it actors, writers, directors, or musicians, OTT has really helped people put their work out there. And good work always gets appreciated."
She adds, "The work you get to do on OTT is much more challenging in terms of different characters. They are not always black or white, but grey. As an artiste, it's very satiating to do roles where you're not just the girl next door or Ms Goody Two Shoes, like what female actors were typically meant to play in the earlier days."
The 38-year-old, who has starred in films such as Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and Bharat (2019), among others, prefers characters with nuance. This possibility, she believes, is higher in OTT projects. "Even as an actor I can go into the depth of it and [add] nuance [to] my performance. It definitely helps," she says, noting, "I'm really enjoying the stuff that I get to watch as a viewer. Not just Indian content but global content."...
